Challenges
Two challenges the organism faces as a result of living in that environment
1. As the Platypus spends a lot of its time in the water, it is a known to be predated on by crocodiles and large fish. This is a challenge because Platypuses don’t stand a chance one on one with crocodiles or larger fish and although they are fast, so are their enemies. However as the Platypus is known to travel on land from time to time, they can be an easy target to dingoes and dogs. The Platypus doesn’t spend all of its time in the water like fish and therefore this makes them vulnerable towards many land animals. 2. However these aren’t the only challenges the Platypus faces, parasites and diseases have been known to consume and kill them in the wild. Platypuses have their own tick called Ixodes ornithothynchi, which can be found around their limbs and body fur. If these parasites attack relentlessly, then they can ultimately kill them. Hence, deadly skin ulcers, which are the result of fungal infection, can also attack the tissues of the Platypus and kill them. |
